Africa50 is an infrastructure investor that contributes to Africa's growth by developing and investing in bankable projects, catalysing public sector capital, and mobilizing private sector funding. 

Africa50 has raised over US$870 million so far from 33 African governments, the African Development Bank, and institutional investors, and intends to reach a target capitalization of US$3 billion. Africa50 has an independent investment process and seeks to generate commercial risk adjusted returns for its investments across four core infrastructure sectors: energy (including power generation and related parts of the value chain), midstream gas, transportation, ICT, health and education. 

Purpose of the Role 

The Institutional Copywriter / Correspondence Manager will be responsible for centralizing, drafting, and coordinating all high-level institutional correspondence issued by Africa50’s senior leadership, including the CEO. 

The role aims to ensure timeliness, consistency, diplomatic accuracy, and institutional coherence across all outgoing communications addressed to Heads of State, Ministers, Governors, shareholders, and strategic partners. 

In addition to correspondences drafting responsibilities, the role will introduce structured workflows, enhance transparency across departments, and establish a centralized repository for institutional correspondence. 

Principal Responsibilities 

Institutional Correspondence Management 
  • Draft and finalize high-level letters, note verbales, congratulatory messages, audience requests, and official correspondence. 

  • Consolidate inputs from relevant departments (Investor Relations, Investment, Legal, Communications, etc.) into structured, concise, and diplomatically appropriate drafts. 

  • Ensure compliance with protocol standards and appropriate forms of address for different jurisdictions. 

  • Maintain consistency in tone, style, and institutional voice across all correspondence. 

  • Prepare anticipatory and reusable templates for recurring correspondence (e.g., nominations, event invitations, audience requests). 

  • Monitor key political, social, and national events, including elections, natural disasters, and major national holidays, and draft tailored correspondence and messaging for stakeholder countries and institutions accordingly. 

Process Centralization and Transparency 
  • Act as the single-entry point for CEO-level and Senior Leadership Level outgoing official correspondences. 

  • Establish a standardized review and validation workflow prior to signature. 

  • Create and maintain a centralized digital repository of outgoing letters, with controlled access rights. 

  • Ensure appropriate internal visibility while safeguarding confidentiality for sensitive correspondence. 

Strategic Communication Support 
  • Support drafting of speeches, keynotes, corporate presentations, briefing notes, and key messages for high-level engagements. 

  • Contribute to selected institutional publications (e.g., annual reports, website content, newsletters, op’ed). 

Provide linguistic and stylistic refinement for high-level documents prepared by different teams in line with brand voice guidelines. 

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications and Experience 

  • Master’s degree in communications, International Relations, Public Affairs, Journalism, Law, or related field. 

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in institutional writing, diplomatic correspondence, executive communications, or similar functions. 

  • Demonstrated experience drafting correspondence for senior executives or high-level officials. 

  • Strong understanding of diplomatic protocol and formal institutional writing standards. 

  • Excellent drafting and editing skills in English and French (mandatory). 

  • Ability to synthesize complex technical inputs into clear and structured messages. 

  • High level of discretion and professional integrity.
